Types of Piping
Various types of piping materials are used in plumbing systems, each with unique properties and applications. These are four commonly used pipes:
- PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride): These pipes are commonly used for drainage, vent, and waste systems. PVC pipes have excellent chemical resistance, making them suitable for indoor and outdoor applications.
- PEX (Cross-Linked Polyethylene): Specifically designed for water supply purposes, their primary challenge lies in balancing durability and flexibility. These pipes must possess the strength to withstand the pressures associated with water supply while also being flexible enough to navigate through walls, ceilings, and basements where they are often installed.
- ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene): They are known for their toughness and durability. ABS piping is primarily used for drain, waste, and vent purposes.
- Rigid Copper: This type of piping offers longevity, reliability, and resistance to corrosion. Rigid copper pipes are typically used for water supply lines, both hot and cold. They are durable and can withstand high pressure.
All four of these piping materials have their own advantages and applications. With over 15 years of experience in Little Rock plumbing installation, our technicians can advise homeowners on what pipes will work for them.
